Foreclosure happens when your mortgage lender or bank takes your house or other real property to pay off your mortgage. It's usually a complicated and long process, and each state has its own laws or statutes on how the process works - from giving you notice of your default (like a failure to make mortgage payments) to how and when your property can be sold at a foreclosure sale.
Your mortgage document and state court rules (usually called rules of civil procedure, or R. Civ. Proc.), may also control the foreclosure process.
