This week the federal government announced a new program whereby
homeowners in foreclosure in 2009 and 2010 can request independent foreclosure
reviews. According to an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, it is
believed that 14 loan servicing companies, including the largest operating in
Georgia, unfairly or illegally foreclosed upon homeowners during the two year
time period.
The program outlines an appeal process for homeowners who feel
they have been financially harmed during foreclosure. This appeal process will
provide homeowners a much needed way to seek the restitution they deserve.
Unfortunately, the details of the program and ultimately the results are not clear
at this point. It may take some time to determine if Georgia homeowners are
being compensated fairly.
